The picturesque island of Zakynthos is considered one of the most beautiful islands of Greece. Every year thousands of tourists from all over the world come to this fabulous island to enjoy its magnificent natural landscapes, fantastic scenery and crystal-clear waters of the Ionian Sea.
On the north coast of Zakynthos in the Cape Skinari about 35 km from the capital of the island of the same name are the famous Blue Caves - one of the most famous and impressive natural attractions in Greece. Caves partially flooded and accessible only by boat to visit.
Blue Caves were discovered in 1897 and its name derives from the stunning azure water. Through the arch of fantastic shapes, carved in white rocks by nature, you will find yourself in the incredible beauty of the cave. The sun's rays penetrate here, refracted about rich in calcium and minerals and water in combination with white rocks create a stunning effect. The depth here is on average about 4 m, and the water is so clear that you can see every pebble on the bottom. Blue Caves are particularly popular with snorkellers.
The nearest port from which you can go on a tour of this amazing place - Agios Nikolaos, located on the northwest coast of the island. But, of course, arrange an excursion to the Blue Cave can be from virtually any port of Zakynthos. You can also rent a boat and go to the caves themselves. The truth in this case is worth considering that a visit to Blue Cave (and especially swimming) in bad weather conditions is strongly recommended.
