A huge architectural complex - the residence of the bishop - is at the center of the old town. It was built in 1720-1744 years by order of the two cardinals - brothers Johann Philipp Franz and Friedrich Carl von Schönborn. Construction led the two architects von Hildenbrandt and Welsh background.

But the famous residence of its unique grand staircase designed by the architect Balthasar Neumann. Code of this baroque staircase is decorated with the world's largest mural work of Venetian artist Giovanni Battista Tiepolo.

In the hall of the Imperial Palace - Tiepolo frescoes depicting scenes from the history of Würzburg, including - portraits of artists, architects, sculptors, who worked in the palace. The huge hall is decorated with stucco garden decorations by Antonio Bossi. Venetian tapestry room is decorated with a picture of the Venetian carnival and decorative panels with paintings by Johann Talhofera.

Particular impression is left inspection of the palace chapel, the interior of which is richly decorated with paintings, sculptures and stucco. In the side altars of the chapel you can see the magnificent paintings by Giovanni Battista Tiepolo.
