The small town of Vienne, located in the department of Isère Rhône-Alpes region contains many unique historical and architectural monuments of the ancient Roman period. One of the surviving buildings of that time is the Temple of Augustus and Libya, which was also built in the I century BC as a symbol of imperial power in the conquered lands of Rome. The temple is called a model of ancient architecture, in perfect state of preservation.

Under the mountain Pipa Romans built theater, which was considered one of the biggest in France. Its capacity was 13 thousand people. He excelled, for example, the Roman amphitheater in Arles, which could hold up to eight thousand, and Ancient Theatre of Fourvière in Lyon, which could take up to ten thousand people at a time.

Vensky theater was renovated in 1938. In addition to its own historical value, this landmark attracts tourists and as a viewing platform. The top tier of the theater you can enjoy panoramic views of Vien and river scenery. Currently, the Roman theater is the venue for cultural events such as the annual summer jazz festival.

In Vien is also worth visiting the Museum of Archaeology, which contains items of the Gallo-Roman period, found during archaeological excavations. Research carried out on the right bank of the Rhone, where it was found the remains of ancient buildings - theater and a temple dedicated to the goddess Cybele.
