In the Andes, in the western part of the National Park Vicente Perez Rosales, about 30 km north-east of the volcano Osorno, is a volcano whose sharp silhouette cuts into the blue sky, like a needle that pierces the clouds - is a volcano Puntiagudo.

Its height - 2498 m. The first ascent of two climbers made it, the Swiss and Chilean researchers, Herman Roth and Rudolf Hess - in 1937. Last - died during the descent during this climb. It has since been made only a few successful ascent to the summit of the volcano Puntiagudo and it is quite a feat, as this volcano is considered one of the most difficult peaks in Chile.

His only historically recorded eruption occurred in 1850, when there was only ashfall. Currently, the National Service of Geology and Mining of Chile does not produce continuous monitoring of the volcano Puntiagudo. Experts say that the activity of the volcano Puntiagudo not pose a risk in the short term, and it is classified as a volcano in a state of rest or of extinction - an extinct volcano.

The vegetation surrounding the slopes of the volcano Puntiagudo, consists of ever-green forests olivillo, Tepa, fragrant cinnamon, Ulmo, Petrie and other plants - shrubs, ferns and vines. As for fauna, you can meet skunks la Kurun, foxes and birds, such as hummingbirds, carpenter and black harrier.

The climate at the foot of the volcano Puntiagudo is characterized by high temperatures without thermal fluctuations and rainfall throughout the year. If you plan to climb higher, it is advisable to bring along warm clothes and a special suit.

To climb to the top of the volcano Puntiagudo - there are two ways. The first begins in the valley, the second originates in the south-east of Lake Rupanko. Both routes require mountaineering skills, therefore, are not suitable for all tourists.

You will enjoy hiking, horseback riding along the nearby rivers, cycling, mountain biking, kayaking in the rivers adjacent to the volcano and lake Rupanko. You can try your hand at rafting (rafting down the mountain rivers), and you are waiting for a memorable picnic warm, quiet secluded fishing, and of course, the rapid surge of emotion from the ski slopes.
