Sommeregg Castle is located in the municipality of Seeboden in the Austrian province of Carinthia. The castle was first mentioned in 1187.

In feudal times, the castle served as the residence for the viscounts of Sommeregg. It is known that the May 29, 1275 in the castle was a big wedding party of Count and Countess Albert Euphemia kind of Ortenburg-Hardegen. Since 1344 the owners of the castle were awarded the honorary title of Burgrave for them, giving them the right to collect tribute from the farmers living in the lands of the castle.

Rhode Ortenburg ceased to exist in 1418, after which the castle and the surrounding area has inherited the family influential Slovenian Celje, got his name on the title of their previous castle. Rhode Celje participated in many wars, speaking on the side of the Habsburgs, with the result that the family received a new earth, and reward and strengthen its position in the high society. Gradually Celje intermarried with several ruling houses of Europe, having a great influence.

In 1628 the castle passed into the possession of the Italian Hans Wittmann, however, after 23 years Sommeregg found a new owner. They became the Count Lodron. Rhode Earl lived in the castle for about 300 years. Since 1932, the castle was left without constant supervision, began to crumble. Within a few decades the castle bought wealthy family, which resulted in the order Sommeregg fully returned to him the previous form. After completing the restoration of the castle was re-sold. The new owners opened a museum of torture in 1997, and a restaurant for tourists. Every year in late summer on the grounds of the castle are held jousting tournaments and performances.

During its long history the castle passed from the hands of one owner to another. Currently, he is again for sale for EUR 4 million.
