Antanas Baranauskas - Lithuanian poet and linguist, also wrote in Polish. Born January 17, 1835 in the city of Onikshty (so-called city of Anykščiai to 1917) in a peasant family. He graduated from elementary school in his hometown, and 2-uhletnyuyu school clerks in Rumšiškės. In the period from 1853 to 1856 he served in the township offices Raseiniai, Skuodas and other towns. He was familiar with the Polish poetess Caroline Pronevskoy which was largely determined by the nature of poetic creativity Antanas Baranauskas.

Since 1856 he studied at the Catholic Seminary in Varniai, then enrolled at St. Petersburg Catholic Theological Academy, from which he graduated in 1862. Even in the period of study at the seminary he became interested in linguistics. Steel I Lithuanian dialectology and founder of the terms of Lithuanian grammar. In 1863-1864 he studied theology at the universities of Rome and Munich. In 1863, he moved away from poetry. In 1866-1884 he worked as a professor at the Kaunas Theological Seminary. There Baranauskas taught moral theology and homiletics. In 1897 he was appointed bishop of Sejny. There he died. It was November 26, 1902. In Sejny, it is the tomb of Antanas Baranauskas.

Therefore created a number of poems in Polish. I wrote poetic work of 14 songs of "Journey to St. Petersburg" (1858-1859). The most famous and artistically perfect product Baranauskas is the poem "Anykščiai Forest" (1858-1859), which is ranked among the classics of Lithuanian literature and translated into many languages. Baranauskas also created a didactic poem "Beach and the grace of God" (1859).

Memorial Museum, or as it is called "the cage," Antanas Baranauskas was founded May 1, 1927. Crate poet and bishop Baranauskas in 1826 (the date carved on jamb) was built by the father of the poet Jonas Baranauskas in Yurzdikase - the former suburb of Anykščiai. The cage is built only an ax, without a saw and knocked together with oak pegs. The stand Antanas Baranauskas liked to spend his spare time, and by the way, is where he created his famous poem "Anykščiai Forest."

In 1921, a relative of Baranauskas, the writer Antanas Zhukauskas Vienuolis-received portion Baranauskas family, kept the cage and it founded the museum of the poet. People began to bring Vienuolis documents and personal belongings of the poet, exhibits connected not only with the life Baranauskas, but also with the history of the town of Anykščiai. So there appeared stupa, spinning wheel, a sword, who remembers 1863 uprising. In the museum you can see things from the old homestead Baranauskas: steelyard, Krynka, braided bast, wooden candlesticks, the crucifix on the wall, Cossack peak suitcase bought in St. Petersburg and has seen almost all European countries. And the oldest exhibit stand - for dowry chest belonging Rosalia - the poet's mother. It depicts a little violin, reminiscent of childhood a little Antanas.

The cage is the first memorial museum in Lithuania. In 1945 he was appointed its director Vienuolis. After 13 years, it built a protective cover. Vienuolis died August 17, 1957. And since 1958, his home was opened Memorial Museum. On the first floor it was located exhibition devoted to the life and work of the writer, the second - the memorial room.

December 1, 1962 A.Baranauskasa crate and house museum A.Venuolisa- Zukauskas combined into one memorial museum of creative people. In 1982, the building was erected nearby storage assets with an exhibition hall and administrative offices.
