The great Moravian stronghold Gelfshtyn, now controlled by the administration of the Comenius Museum, located in the city Pzherove around Olomouc, is the most powerful medieval castle, which is repeatedly being completed, rebuilt, and then deliberately destroyed and restored. Now Gelfshtyn castle complex includes the main palace building, a few high observation towers, plenty of outbuildings, surrounded by high walls, is equipped with six gates. Outside the castle, you can see a few trees, which are also considered to be part of it.

The castle has never been the residence of aristocrats, it is always served to protect local land from enemy armies. It constantly were military garrisons, regularly carrying service.

The castle was founded in the XIV century nobleman Fridushem Linava of that, poor, he became a famous bandit. The castle is constantly passed from hand to hand. Each owner tried to improve it or adapt to suit your needs. That is why we now see the building in which the visible elements made in different architectural styles. Renaissance features a Gothic castle acquired when aristocrats from Vrbna Bruntalskih. After the battle of White Mountain, the castle was handed over to Cardinal Dietrichstein, which radically changed the fate Gelfshtyna, making it a military fortification. Fortress properly perform its functions, until in 1656 it partially demolished to make uninteresting for a possible enemy. Since then, the castle dilapidated, until it became in 1945 the property of the state.

Today the castle is particularly interesting during the various kinds of historical festivals. There often hold folk festivals, competitions fencers, trade fair of products of blacksmiths, who immediately demonstrate their skills.
