All the buildings in the historical part of Prachatice, including the main square of the city, which is called the Great, and formerly was called the Market, was built in the early XVI century. In 1507, a fire almost the entire city was destroyed. Patient townspeople rebuilt all the houses, churches and other important historical sites again.

A large area - the heart of the old city. Baroque and Renaissance houses surrounding areas, which previously were held fairs and folk festivals, and now slowly stroll tourists, considering the stone fountain, decorated with a sculpture in the Baroque style, photographed against the backdrop of gingerbread facades, hiding from the sun or the winter wind under the arcades Rumpalova and Bozovskogo houses which were erected in the XVI century on the east side of the square. But during the Christmas and Easter holidays the area comes to life: it set a Christmas tree, unfold the tent city, where you can buy souvenirs, sweets and so on.

At the site of the house №29 previously housed a school, which he attended John Huss. He came to this school from a nearby village called Gusinets.

The house №13, which is also called Sitrovym currently working museum.

However, the two are considered to be the pride of Prachatice town hall - old and new, which are separated by only one house. Old Town Hall dates back to the year 1571. It was built in Renaissance style and is decorated with elaborately painted in the style of sgraffito. Adjacent to City Hall on the site of a building owned by the Czech Savings Bank, in 1903 the city council to build another Town Hall, which is now called New. The reason for the construction of this building was banal: the lack of space for a growing staff. Corner tower of City Hall and the statue of the patron saint of the city, set on the pediment, have become symbols of local authorities.
