Kazertavekkia - Caserta area, which lies at an altitude of 400 meters above sea level, 10 km north-east of the city center at the foot of the mountains Tifatini. With its Italian name translates as Old Caserta and it is really old city center has retained the appearance of a typical Italian medieval village.

Origin Kazertavekkia not reliably established, but according to the Benedictine monks Erchempertu, the settlement was founded in the year 861. Earlier this place was the ancient Roman city Kazama Irtam. The first rulers were Kazertavekkia Lombards, then ransacked his Saracens, and later became a fortified village provincial diocese. During the Norman domination began the construction of the cathedral of San Michele, dedicated to the Archangel Michael. Then here comes the rules of Swabia Riccardo Di Lauro, in which the city experienced a period of heyday.

In 1442, the year Kazertavekkia was conquered by the representatives of the Aragon dynasty and began a long period of gradual decline, which has led to the fact that in the city there were only a seminary and pulpit Bishop. When the Bourbons began the development of a large Caserta, and as a result in 1842 all political power, even the diocese moved there. Kazertavekkia remained Skoromniy provincial town. In 1960 it was declared a national monument of Italy.

Today Kazertavekkia lives mainly due to tourism. Here you can see an ancient cathedral of San Michele with its bell tower of the 11th century, the Church of the Annunziata and the ruins of the ancient castle Castello Medioevale with the tower, and dinner in a local pizzeria with scenic views.
