In the north-western Greece, on the shores of Lake Pamvotida (already known as the Lake of Ioannina) is a picturesque town of Ioannina - the capital and largest town Epirus, Greece. Today, Ioannina - an important economic, transport and cultural center of northern Greece. The city is not too "spoiled by tourism," as is a little bit away from the popular tourist destinations, although its long history of entertaining and magnificent natural landscapes worthy of close attention.

One of the main attractions of Ioannina is a Turkish mosque Fethiye. It is located in the citadel of Ich-Calais (inner fortress) in the territory of Old Castle of Ioannina, which was built in the early 6th century by Emperor Justinian. Fethiye Mosque, built in 1430, immediately after the conquest of the Turks of Ioannina, close to the ruins dating back to the 13th century Byzantine church of Archangels Michael and Gabriel.

Initially, the building of the mosque was a wooden structure, which in 1611 replaced the stone structure. Its modern form as Fethiye Mosque had been in 1795, when the decree of the legendary Ali Pasha Tepelenskogo (Ioannina) was carried out large-scale reconstruction of the mosque. Ali Pasha did Fethiye the main mosque of the palace.

In 1822, on the orders of Sultan Ali Pasha was executed and his head sent to Constantinople. The decapitated body of the pasha was buried next to the mosque Fethiye family tomb. The tomb of Ali Pasha and his family survived to this day.

Today, Fethiye Mosque is an important historical monument and a fine example of Ottoman architecture.
