St. John the Theologian Church is in Torzhok, Volodarsky street, 78. Until 1606 at the site of the present temple John the Theologian monastery existed, who died in a fire during the Polish-Lithuanian intervention.

The current and standing in the cemetery church dedicated to St. John the Theologian was built in 1782 with funds donated by the merchant II Morozov. Empress Catherine II the Great when traveling through Torzhok took Morozov as the man famous for his charity and of Staritsy sent him an icon of St. John the Theologian. This icon is placed in the iconostasis of the 15 are over the grave of the son of a merchant, the boy John.

In 1844 the cemetery was built around a stone wall, which has an arched exit. The funds for its construction donated merchant Bitel.

Among those buried in the cemetery of St. John the Theologian, there are many well-known personalities: Colonel DF Beck - hero battles on Shipka (1877-1878 years), PI Wulff - owner and friend of Alexander Pavlovsky Pushkin, honorable citizens of Torzhok. St. John the Theologian Church was abolished in 1939. Reconstituted and returned to the congregation in 1993 on the initiative of RN Malhanovoy a large number of local residents and leaders of urban enterprises. He is currently an active temple.
