Buçaco Palace Hotel - a luxury hotel located in the highlands of the Sierra do Buçaco, the national forest and national park, which is located in the north of Portugal. The area around the Palace of Buçaco previously belonged to the monastery of barefoot Carmelites, founded in 1628. The monks built a monastery, not only, but also created a lush garden, where it grows a variety of species of plants and trees.

In the late 17th century the chapel was built. Part of the monastery, including a chapel with an altarpiece baroque cloister and some monastic cells, survived to our time and are close to the hotel. At the entrance to the ancient monastery of a memorial plaque dedicated to the Battle of Buçaco, which serves as a reminder that the Viscount Wellington, who later became the Duke of Wellington, spent the night in the monastery after the Battle of Sept. 27, 1810.

Buçaco Carmelites left in the middle of the 19th century as a religious order in Portugal was eliminated. Later, it was planned to convert an old convent in the royal residence for Queen Maria Pia, wife of King LuishaI, but because of the political situation, it was decided to turn the palace into a hotel.

Presumably palace hotel was built between 1888 and 1907. The first was the Italian architect Luigi Manini, who designed the palace in neo-Manueline. Interior rooms are decorated with luxurious portals in the same style. The walls are decorated with well-known in Portugal tiles "azulejo" under the direction of Jorge Kolatso and display a variety of historical events such as the Battle of Buçaco.
