The oldest stave Norway was built in 1050 in the village of Urnes on land owned by the same noble family. Carpenters used logs (Norwegian "becoming") up to 12 meters. The vertical poles set up a static basis for the design. Inside the pillars, arches and passing in the cross of the inner frame, connect the floor of the church with a beamed ceiling. Through the art of carpenters, who were able to precisely fit each other walls and columns, the Norwegian stave churches can withstand even the most severe winter storm.
