Scaliger Tombs, located near the church of Santa Maria Antica, are three Gothic tombs of medieval rulers of the genus Scaligeri Verona, who were in power in the 13-14 centuries. He served as a model for the arches hanging sarcophagus Guglielmo di Castelbarco, built in 1320 and now located at the Church of Santa Anastasia.
At the entrance to the church of Santa Maria Antica, you can see a copy of the Arch Kangrande I della Scala, made in the form of a tabernacle - tower-shaped open extension. The original is kept in the museum of Castelvecchio. The author of this creation remains unknown, although many critics believe the arch work of Giovanni Regina. Himself Kangrande I - the greatest of all Scaligero - depicted on the tombstone in two positions: lying in the arms of eternal sleep and sitting on a horse. The last image is formed on top of the arch. This tombstone is considered one of the most outstanding examples of 14th-century sculpture of Verona.
Mastino II arch decorated with numerous figures of angels and saints, and the Mastino is depicted wearing armor and sitting on a horse. Construction of the arch began during the life of the ruler, who died in 1351.
Finally, Kansinorio Arch, built in 1375 by craftsmen from Bologna Gaspare Broaspini and Bonino da Campione, has a hexagonal shape and is decorated with twisted columns. On the faces of the tombstone can be seen sculptures and bas-reliefs, and on top of the statue Kansinorio.
Despite its artistic and historic value by the end of the 16th century Arch derelict. Large-scale restoration of the tombstones Mastino II had held only in 1786, and in 1839 was put in order the whole monumental complex.
Close to Arches Scaligero and disposal are the other members of the once powerful family - Mastino I (in Piazza dei Signori, the church of Santa Maria), Alboin, Bartolomeo Alberto I (his ornate sarcophagus tombstone repeats Mastino I) and Kangrande II.
