White Horse Temple - Buddhist temple, one of the first built in China. Based temple in Luoyang according to the guardianship of the Emperor Ming-di (personal name - Liu Zhuan) in 68 AD.

There are interesting beliefs about the origin of the name of the monastery. Liu Zhuang had a dream, waking up after which he immediately sent to India, his loyal subjects, they found that all of the mysterious doctrine, rumors of which continued to spread among the population of China. The messengers returned, but not alone, but together with the Buddhist monks, carrying the sacred books on white horses, in whose honor the temple gets its name.

Another belief is directly related to the emergence and spread of Buddhism in China. Chau Van Emperor, the ruler of the Tang Dynasty saw an unusually bright halo of light in the sky. The court astrologers predicted the birth of a holy man. And also the fact that the scientists who will follow this man to spread in China. The prediction was recorded in the royal registration book. Later, it turned out that this is the year in India, Gautama Buddha was born.

Church, though small in size, according to the majority of believers is "the cradle of Chinese Buddhism." The temple grounds - 13 acres. The temple facades facing south. Before entering the temple are stone statues of horses.

The temple has several rooms, namely: "Hall of six founders," "Hall of Mahavira," "Hall of Cheers," "Hall of the Jade Buddha," "Hall of Heavenly Kings," and the repository of ancient scriptures. Behind the main hall is "Cool and Clear Terrace", which is also known as the "Terrace Tsinlyana." The four sides of the terrace lined with green bricks. There is also a terrace pavilion Kunle, east and west of which there are two rooms with statues of eminent monks - Sheng and Zhu falans Motenga. The two were buried at the temple gate.

In the main hall on the altar are three statues: the center is a statue of Sakyamuni Buddha statues between the Bodhisattva Manjushri and Samantabhadra. Monks still serves as a huge bell, which weighs more than a ton, which was set near the altar in the days of the emperor of the Ming Dynasty Dzhiedzhinga.
