Cathedral of the Holy Nativity of the Theotokos - Orthodox church is located in the old town of Veliko Tarnovo.

The cathedral was built on the foundation of the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, who stood here before. Previous church was built by prominent Bulgarian architect Kolyo Ficheto in the period from 1842 to 1844. It was a nave building of hewn stone and brick. Large windows oval and wide eaves make it unique. Unfortunately, as a result of a strong earthquake April 1st, 1913 the church was completely destroyed.

In the years 1933-1934 on the site erected a new cathedral. By its architectural design Church of the Holy Nativity of the Virgin is a temple of the cross-dome type, in which the premises form a cross shape. On the roof of the nave is a large dome. Above the spacious covered porch in front of the building stands the bell tower. The new church became the center of a small area of the old part of Veliko Tarnovo.

In 1954, the painters D. Gyudzhenov, Kozhuharov N., P. Seferov and painter Alexander Velev from Tarnovo decorated arches of the temple murals. The carved iconostasis and bishop's throne - the work of a talented master D. Kushleva.
