The building of the Church do Carmo in Faro in the Baroque style is considered one of the most beautiful buildings in the city, the most important example of religious and artistic heritage of the Algarve, and an example of wooden architecture in Portugal. The temple is located on the street Largo do Carmo. The church is also called the Church of the Third Order of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Mount Carmel, or Carmelite Church.

The church was founded in 1713 by Bishop Antonio Pereira da Silva. The building was built on the land which bought the bishop. Inauguration of the church took place in 1719. In the middle of the XVIII century in the church were carried out repair work, which resulted in the building was extended and the original facade of the temple has been renovated completely. Work on updating the church was engaged in the master Diogo Gonçalves. Fully prepared, the church was completed in 1878, including the construction of the towers of the church. The interior design of the church led by the sculptor Manuel Martins. Decorated with Brazilian gold leaf, it is particularly striking with its luxury altar. Because of such a luxury decoration church is called the "golden church." It deserves special attention in the Baroque organ and sacristy.

Church do Carmo is the most stunning attractions in the city because of drained chapel built to the church in 1826. This chapel is also called the Chapel of Bones in the walls and ceiling of the chapel walled the skulls and bones of the Carmelite monks. They built a chapel Franciscan monks at the entrance to the chapel can be seen the inscription "Our bones are waiting for your bones."
