Korakuen Garden was laid out next to the castle of Okayama in the end of XVII century on the orders of the owner, the daimyo Ikeda Tsunamasa. Work was carried out from 1687 to 1700 years. Apart from a few changes made by subsequent owners, the garden face of practically unchanged since 1863. However, he changed his name. Originally it called Garden Cohen, as was established later the castle. Also, the place was known as the Garden of the last pleasure - in the sense that, in the words of the Chinese philosopher Fang Zhongyang County, you need to grieve before the others, and enjoy after all, and this ability is, in his opinion, is a property of a noble man. Name Korakuen Garden acquired in 1871.

When the daimyo garden was a place of reception and entertainment of important guests. In 1884, Korakuen was transferred to the management of the administration of Okayama Prefecture and opened its doors to all comers.

Garden rebuilt twice: after the floods in 1934 and 1945 after the bombing. During the reconstruction of the garden used images made during the Edo period. In 1952, the garden was a special cultural status. Korakuen is recognized as one of the three most beautiful gardens in Japan, along with Kenrokuen in Kanazawa and Kayrakuen in Mito.

Its area is about 133 thousand square meters. meters. At the center of the garden is a pond with three islands, which repeats the view of Lake Biwa - the largest freshwater lake in Japan, sung in literary works. Connoisseurs visit the garden in the spring, to see how the black walls of "The Raven" lock contrasted with white and pink flowers flowering plums and cherries. Also in the garden of pines and maples, the first time in a Japanese landscape art here were planted large grassy lawns. In the garden there are several teahouses and even a tea plantation.
