Armacao de Pera - a small town in the Algarve. Today is a very popular destination for leisure travelers. The city is located along the coast and attracts those wishing to relax on the sandy beaches and enjoy the picturesque surroundings.

Title settlement consists of two parts. The first part - the name of the region of Pera, who was originally a fishing port, and the second part - "Armação" - specially equipped boats for extraction of fish with a combined system for fishing nets. These boats were designed by the Moors. In the municipality there are two cities with the same name, so Armacao de Pera is called Pera de Baixo, or Lower Pen, in order to distinguish it from another city, whose name - Pera de Cima, or top of the pen.

Before the town has become popular among tourists fishery was the only source of income for the inhabitants of Armação de Pera for centuries. Sardines and tuna - the most common types of fish are salted and transported for sale in other provinces of Portugal. And today you can see the fishing nets, placed in the sea.

In the XVI century at the shoreline a prosperous shipowner fort was built to protect the town from pirate raids. Inside the fort is a small chapel of St. Anthony, built almost simultaneously with the fort. At the moment you can see one of the walls of this ancient fort gateway, over which hangs the royal coat of arms.

Armação de Pera is especially popular in the summer months when you can enjoy the warmth of the sun and relax on the beautiful beaches.
