National Park "Pirin" is located in a large area of ​​the Pirin Mountains in southwestern Bulgaria. The structure of the park has seven localities that are subject to the regional center Blagoevgrad such as Bansko, Sadanski, Gotse Delchev, Strumyani, Kresna, Simitli and Razlog.

This national park began in 1962 and the first national park was called "Whirlwind" (named after the highest peak of the Pirin Mountains), it covers about 6212 hectares of the highest areas (area Demyanitskoy and Vihrenskoy parts). As time went on, the park gradually expanded, now the National Park "Pirin" covers an area of ​​over 40 000 hectares. In 1983, "Pirin" was taken under the protection of UNESCO.

One of the areas under the protection of the territory, "Bayuvi Dupka - Dzhindzhiritsa" once represented one of the oldest nature reserves. In 1934, it became clear that we must save the untouched forests, which grow mainly in the Balkans and Khingan pine, and keep the wealth of the local flora and fauna. In 1977, this reserve was in the list of objects of the nature of UNESCO's program "Man and Biosphere". And by 1994, there is another reserve established under the name "Julen".

In the "Pirin" grows about 180 species of medicinal herbs, there are about 1315 species of higher plants - it's almost a third of the flora of Bulgaria. In addition, there are about 320 different species of mosses and about 165 species of algae.

As for fauna, in this park, there are more than 2000 species of invertebrates and more than 200 species of vertebrates. It is home to an ordinary frog and the Balkans, which are listed in the International Red Book.

It offers visitors the National Park "Pirin" - eight recreation centers, where you can stay for the night, and four shelters. Works National Park Information Centre, located in Bansko, where adults and children are prepared special informative lectures on the nature of which are shown on the interactive screen.
