Castle Orlik
   Photo: Castle Orlik

Snow-white neo-Gothic palace Orlik with several towers and crenellated walls with a few windows, resembles a fortress. It is located near the Orlické dam created on the Vltava. The construction of this reservoir breached appearance of the palace complex, destroying the high walls that serve the protection of the castle. Now Orlik was in dangerous proximity to the river.

It is interesting that for the control of the river and the castle was built. It belonged to the Czech crown and served as the residence of the royal tax collector. The original fort was compact and consisted of only one floor. In the XIV century, when the castle was surrounded by a wall, he had included the manor house and the tower above the access road bridge. With her perfectly viewed the road, and you could see all the guests from afar. At the same time in the castle there was a small chapel and a room for hunting.

After a fire in 1508 the castle was restored in Renaissance style. The last owners Orlik was born Schwarzenberg, who has taken care of its restructuring in the Gothic Revival style. During the communist regime the castle belonged to the state, but he returned to the rightful owners. In order to somehow recoup the content of this majestic building, opened a museum in the castle. The interiors of the palace is a rich collection of glassware, books, weapons. Many of the items exhibited in the castle were collected Schwarzenberg but there are more ancient artifacts left by the previous owners of the castle.
