Monument to Saint Nicholas in Anadyr - the world's largest monument to the saint. Monument to the patron saint of travelers and sailing in the capital of Chukotka was built on a high cliff above the picturesque estuary Anadyr in August 2004
The grand opening of the monument took place under the leadership of Metropolitan Herman of Volgograd and Kamyshenskogo, Bishop of Anadyr and Chukotka Diomede. The monument was created by Honored Artist of Russia Sergei Isakov. The total height of the monument more than 25 m, of which the surface is only 10 meters, as most of the pedestal goes into the permafrost. This is due to the peculiarities of the climate of Chukotka - squalls. Bronze monolith monument set on a pedestal, made of black labradorite. It weighs over 4 tons. The very statue of St. Nicholas has a height of 6 m, arm span St. 3 m and 60 cm.
Given that the monument is located on the high bank of the Chukotka region, it can be seen even a few kilometers. Therefore, a converted facing east Nicholas first met each new morning, at the easternmost border of the country.
