Castle Prince of Oldenburg is located in Old Gagra on the hillside, not far from where the river flows into the Black Sea Zhoekvara. On the Black Sea coast is a park, where they were planted orange and lemon trees, cypresses, palms, agaves.

The famous castle of the Prince of Oldenburg was built in 1902 in Art Nouveau style. The author of the project was made by architect IK Lyutseransky. The palace is a wonderful building with a roof covered with red tiles, balconies, chimneys and tower Falconer, which fits perfectly into the overall ensemble of the castle. In parallel with the construction of his castle, Prince began to implement in practice the plan to establish a climatic resort, the so-called "Russian Nice", which was his main merit.

Due to financial investments in the city of Prince was created subtropical College and Telegraph, as well as running water and electric lights. In 1903, the restaurant "Gagripsh" was inaugurated climate station, it is this day considered to be the base of the resort.

But all this could not save the Prince of Oldenburg from the case of a disaster. Since the beginning of the First World War, Prince was recalled to St. Petersburg, where he was appointed Supreme Chief of evacuation and medical unit. In Gagra he never returned. In 1917, Aleksandr Petrovich went to Finland, and later to France. His last days the Prince of Oldenburg held on the French Cote d'Azur.

In 1992-1993. Gagra, including the castle, became the focus of the fighting, and therefore hit hard - a lot of fires and robberies have spoiled her a lot. Today the tourist industry in the city is developing quite intensively. However, the castle of the Prince of Oldenburg is in a dilapidated condition, so be temporarily closed to the public.
