The first mention of the church dates from Alpbach in Austria in 1369 year, but at that time there was only a small village church, which in 1420 was completely rebuilt and consecrated in the name of the Scottish king - St. Oswald. In 1720, followed by another reconstruction in the Baroque style, from old buildings remained only the central tower.

Alpbach for quite a long time belonged to the parish Reith, but in 1556 there arose own Vicariate, and in 1891 an independent parish.

The main altar of the church was built by local craftsmen from the family background Blettsaher Hansler and paintings, written by Thomas Gverherom of Brixlegg, which depicts the saint Oswald and Martin and Katarina. The statues were carved around the altar by Franz Shtёklom of Hull.

The altar of the Virgin Mary, though inferior to the main significance is decorated with far more interesting and richer. It is to seek him many pilgrims to venerate Marie winning conferring pink wreath on the head of St. Dominic.

The body of the church of St. Oswald's was built in 1777, but in 1954 almost completely revamped and greatly expanded, while maintaining the facade decoration in the rococo style. The ceiling of the church was in 1959, subjected to restoration and completely repainted. Currently, it is decorated with two scenes - "The Ascension of Mary" and "St. Oswald" by hand Christoph Mayr of Schwaz.
