Lappeenranta is historically known as a cavalry city. In 1809 Finland became an autonomous Grand Duchy of the Russian Empire, and previously was a part of Sweden. In 1878, the country established its own army, called - "Old Army". Finnish Dragoon Regiment in 1889, settled in Lappeenranta, which for him were specially built barracks. In 1947, the history of the cavalry in Finland has ended, but the tradition and heritage are still kept by the participation of various foundations and associations.

Cavalry Museum Lappeenranta is located in the territory of the old city buildings - Linnoytus fortress - the former guardhouse, built in 1722. Local authorities and foundations have worked hard to create in 1973 the exhibition collection devoted to the Thirty Years' War of 1618-1648.

Here are collected dear old paintings and engravings depicting the exciting historic battles of those years. Also, visitors will see the rarity silicon gun XVIII century, uniforms of soldiers of that time, the old black and white photos, which can trace fragments from the life of the aristocracy, as well as learn about the history of the Army.

Cavalry Museum is open to visitors during the summer schedule, and the autumn, winter and summer by appointment.
