The house-museum of Lope de Vega is located almost in the center of Madrid. This is the house in which the great poet, writer and playwright, the brightest star of the Golden Age of Spain, had lived for the last 25 years of his life.

Felix Carpio, Lope de Vega was born in Madrid in 1562 in a family of craftsmen. Here he spent his childhood and youth here lit the star of his genius. Not graduating from university, Lope de Vega had to leave Madrid. Back in his native town of the writer it was only 10 years later. My house has got a writer in 1610, settled there with his family and lived there until his death.

The house, built in 1578, is a typical example of the Madrid home this time. In the 17th century facades have been significantly changed. Currently, the house-museum is owned by the Spanish Royal Academy.

The museum has managed to maintain an environment that was there during the life of the writer. Furniture, paintings, books and other items are in their places. The house has retained many personal items belonging to Lope de Vega. In the museum, visitors can go to the office of the great writer, in which he created his literary masterpieces, visit the chapel, to look into the bedroom of the writer and his daughters in the kitchen and the guest room, stroll through the charming courtyard with a well and a small garden.

The house-museum of Lope de Vega was opened to the public in 1935. In the same year he was declared a National Historic Landmark in Spain.
