Barcelos - a small town, which is famous for its rich history, was founded during the Roman conquest. It is also the only Portuguese city on the banks of the river Cávado. It is here that there was a national symbol of Portugal - Cockerel.
The central square of the old town - the area of the Renaissance. In the morning on Thursday it carried out one of the biggest and most crowded fairs in Europe where you can buy many items, ranging from vegetables, fruits and meat, and ending with handicraft and more. To the north of the square is the church of Nossa Senhora do tierce.
Church formerly owned by the Benedictine monastery, which was founded in 1705. The building of Nossa Senhora do tierce was built in the XVIII century by King Juan V in response to the wishes of his father, King Pedro II. For straightforward exterior of the church is hiding a magnificent baroque interior. Inside the church the walls are covered with magnificent mural, made famous in the Portuguese tiles "azulezhush" that show a variety of scenes from the life of Saint Benedict. Attract the attention of wooden altars, adorned with numerous decorative elements of carved and gilt, which is credited with authorship of Ambrosio Coelho. Inside the church is the image of Our Lady of tierce, made of wood in the XVIII century, and the sculpture depicting the crucifixion of Christ around the XV century. There is also a sculpture of Our Lady kept Abad, made of stone, "Anka" middle of the XVI century.
