The town of Rab is situated on the Croatian island of the same name. Like many other villages in the region, it has a rich history. Numerous local archaeological finds belong to the Stone Age, the Neolithic, copper and bronze ages, and talk about the people staying here in prehistoric times. Illyrian tribes settled in the area in the third century BC. Over the next nine centuries Rab was part of the Roman Empire at that time, he developed quickly. Under the name of the town of Rab it is only mentioned in documents in the 15th century.

The modern city stands on the same spot where it was pre-Roman settlement of the Illyrians. The Romans had clear principles of construction: at the heart of the city on three longitudinal streets with a number of cross-stairs. To this day the image of the city has not been preserved, it was formed in the late Middle Ages. The symbol of the Slave were three 12th-century bell tower and one later, baroque.

Franciscan Monastery of St. Euphemia was first mentioned in documents of the 13th century. The monastery is a typical Franciscan architectural look that blends in perfectly with the surrounding landscape. Church of St. Euphemia was built as a simple single-nave building, but later rebuilt several times. The altar of the church is decorated with works of famous Venetian artists - brothers Antonio and Bartolomeo Vivarini, created in 1458. The monastery has a rich library stored in its funds of more than seven thousand volumes from the 15th century to the present day. There is also a collection of valuable paintings, manuscripts, parchments, monastic documents, as well as ancient coins.
