One of the most important historical sites in the city of Copenhagen is a Royal Palace Christiansborg, located on the island of Slotsholmen. The founder of the castle in 1167, he became Bishop Absalon, who is also the founder and most of Copenhagen. In 1249 the castle was occupied and burned the army of Lübeck, to which Denmark waged trade wars. Over time, the castle was restored in Copenhagen, but in 1369 the army of the Hanseatic League burned it again.

During the reign of Christian VI in the ruins of the Christiansborg Palace was built in the Baroque style. Construction was completed in 1745. In 1794 the castle burned down again. Start of the second building Christiansborg, and the whole royal family moved to Amalienborg. To restore the castle invited the architect Hansen began new construction in a simple style of French classicism. In 1828 we completed the construction of Christiansborg. But the family of Frederick VI does not want to move into the residence, there was placed the Danish Parliament, and also used the castle for dinner receptions. From 1852-1863 year at Christiansborg lived monarch Frederick VII, in 1884, the castle burned down.

The third and final castle architect Thorvald was Yogenson, he built it from the year 1907-1928 in the style of neo-baroque. Originally the roof was tiled, but in 1938 it was changed to copper sheets. On the spire of the castle is a weather vane in the form of two crowns. The perfect complement castle became the equestrian statue of Christian IX on the area of ​​work of the sculptor Carl Nilsson. During construction, it was found fragments of masonry castle of Bishop Absalon.

Today, the castle is located royal residence, the Royal Library, the Danish parliament, the Supreme Court and the Office of the Prime Minister. The rest of the castle is a museum.
