Church of St. Peter - famous monument of architecture and the first Protestant church in the city of Zürich after the Reformation. It attracts tourists not only because it is the oldest temple of the city, and established in 1538 in the huge clock tower with the largest clock face in Europe: 9m in diameter; the minute hand length of almost 4m.

Tower and previously was of great importance for the city due to the fire guards, whose task was to monitor the room for the tower clock and adjust their work as other city watch was focused on these. The tower was built in the 16th century, but the bells were hoisted on it only at the end of the 19th century. Bell played the role of a fire signal.

The church was built in 1230 instead of the two other temples standing here at 8 and 10 centuries. Initially, the architecture of the building was mostly Late Romanesque style. In the 15th century it has been added to the elements of the Gothic style, later still appeared baroque gallery. In the 18th century the church was the first Protestant church in Zurich. In front of the stairs of the church, located at the entrance to the temple is a lovely little square with lots of trees.

Rudolf Brun, the first mayor of Zurich, was buried in this church. It also buried Leo Yud - a friend of Zwingli, who helped him translate the Bible. The famous writer and philosopher Johann Caspar Lavater read a lecture here.

Today, the church of St. Peter - a small church of the same name by the old part of the community.
