Alexander Church - church, built in 1881-1884, respectively, for the working-Lutherans workers to Krenholm. The initiator of the construction of the new church was the parish pastor them. St. Johannes Ferdinand Gottlieb Tannenberg, who conducted the service for the Estonians in the Swedish-Finnish church of St. Michael.

The church was designed by Otto von Piusa Gippius, funds for the construction of donated Baron Ludwig von Knoop, owner of Krenholm manufacture. Masonry exercised master Kronstadt Luca Aces, interior decoration performed Yemelyan Wolves. Initially, the construction of the church led by the architect of the project, and later worked on this Krenholm architect Paul Alish. After a change of architect in the project were minor changes: so for example, were added heating and ventilation pipes.

Alexander II was killed March 1, 1881 as a result of the explosion of terrorist bombs. According to the joint decision taken by the city of Narva and the church administration in October 1883, the cathedral and the parish was named in honor of Alexander II. A year later, in May 1884, the cathedral was consecrated.

In those years, the manufactory employed about 5,000 people, adhere to Lutheranism. Alexander Church was designed for the number of workers. It seats 2500 and the same amount a person can participate in worship standing. The central part of the church is in the form of an octahedron. To the main room joins the longitudinal building, as well as the octagonal tower, a height of 61 meters. The first pastor of the parish became the Alexander Richard Julius von Pauker. He held this position until his death - until March 29, 1910.

Alexander Church suffered greatly in the First World War and the Second. During the Soviet regime only the arrival of Alexander's Cathedral (the only one of all the parishes of the Lutheran churches) continued its work. In 1959, a new restoration of the Cathedral marked the 75th anniversary of the church. Three years later, in September 1962 the parish was forced to leave the church and the building of the cathedral was given a warehouse, all the internal situation in this case was destroyed. Parish church bell managed to hide and take with them only a few chandeliers.

Only in 1990 it was returned to the parish Lutheran Cathedral. The first service after such a long break was held in 1994. And from that time, in the summer, in the cathedral regularly attend services, and the remainder of the period of worship performed in a small church. The historic bell that was hidden, got the 120 anniversary of the cathedral. In 2004, the stained glass windows were sanctified, made Dolores Hoffmann. In 2007, we established the spire bell tower of the cathedral, whose height with a 4-meter cross reaches 60, 7 meters. The height of the internal octagonal main hall is 25, 5 m, and the diameter of the arch is 20 m 3. The cathedral tower is a museum of Narva Alexander's Cathedral, which you can visit on your own or book a tour.
