The river is a tributary of Lake Baikal Utulik in the Hamar-Daban, its length is more than 180 kilometers. The name of the river comes from the Buryat word "hutel" or "hutuleg", which translates as "low pass". However, what kind of pass it in this case in question, the scientists still do not understand, because the whole length of the river found the stone passes.

It feeds the river Utulik meltwater and by precipitation. In the summer make-up river 1/4 comes from groundwater, and 3/4 - due to rains. The average slope of the river is 7, 7 m / km.
