Abbey Camaiore - Camaiore one of the landmarks in the Italian region of Tuscany. The first mention of it dates back to the domination of the Lombards in this area, but rather to the 761 th year when Lucca was the capital of Tuscany. It was then, in the 8th century, Benedictine monks founded the abbey. Subsequently, it has expanded to the whole religious complex consisting of the church with a bell tower, a cemetery and monastery, surrounded by battlements. At the beginning of the 12th century abbey reached its zenith, and its abbots served as bishops and secular rulers under the auspices of the Vatican City.

Also in the 12th century thanks to a generous donation from the Countess Matilde di Canossa and on the initiative of the monks primitive one-story church with a simple stone altar was rebuilt and acquired its present appearance. The building was attached to the two side chapels, gable apse and made Wooden arches.

Twice in its history the abbey was looted and burned together with the very small town of Camaiore: the first time in 1315, the year and the second time in 1329, the year.

Today, the main entrance to the abbey opens onto a small grassy area in front of the church (formerly a cemetery Benedictine monks). Here fragments of battlements of the 13th century.
