Naples Cathedral, dedicated to the heavenly patron of the city, the popularity of St. Januarius, was founded in the XIII century, at the behest of Charles II of Anjou, on the site of previous buildings and in the following centuries was rebuilt several times. This is reminiscent of the neo-Gothic facade of the cathedral, executed in 1877 - 1905 years. E. Alvino.

The magnificent three-nave interior under the coffered canopy divided graceful Gothic arcades. In the cathedral there are paintings Lanfranco and Domenichino and monuments of the former rulers.

The oldest part of the church - Chapel of St. Restituta - dates back to the IV century. Its interior is decorated with ceiling paintings of Luca Giordano and the V century baptismal font. But the main attraction of the cathedral and one of the wonders of the Christian world - the blood of St. Gennaro (patron saint of Naples), twice a year miraculously "boils" in a sealed flask in the hands of a priest.
