Abbey Viboldone
   Photo: Abbey Viboldone

Abbey Viboldone located in the town of San Giuliano Milanese in the province of Milan in Lombardy. Its construction was started in 1176, the year and was completed only in 1348, the year when the Abbey belonged to monastic order Humiliati. In those years, the monks lived here in addition to the lay people who worked at the abbey, woven garments of wool and cultivated surrounding fields with the help of innovative technologies. After the abolition of the Order Humiliati on the orders of Pope Pius V (in 1571, the year) Viboldone passed to the Order of the Benedictines, who were forced to leave the abbey in 1773, the year when Lombardy became part of the Austrian Empire. For many years the abbey was abandoned, but in 1941, the year it inhabited a nun from the congregation of Mother Margarita Stamps.

Facade Viboldone, unfinished in 1348, the year, with two half-columns is divided into three sectors and remarkable vaulted windows and masonry krpichnoy with decorations made of white stone. The entrance portal is made of white marble and topped by a lunette marble sculpture of the Madonna and Child with St. Ambrose and St. John of Meda. On either side of it are seen two Gothic niches with statues of saints Peter and Paul. The very door of dark wood dates back to the 14th century.

The bell tower of the abbey in their appearance reminiscent of the facade - with frames made of terracotta and small arcades in the bottom of the double and triple arched windows. At the top visible small round windows.

The interior of the abbey Viboldone quite simple, even severe - there are only a few sets, and only the apse is richly decorated with frescoes by Giotto school. The room is divided into a central nave and two aisles with five bays each (first made in Romanesque style, and the rest - in the Gothic). On the walls you can see a fresco depicting the Madonna with Saints and a great picture of the Last Judgment in the heart of Jesus and the curse, which looks Satan. Other murals depicting musical instruments are stored in the Music Hall in the building next to the abbey.
