Samosdelka settlement is located about 40 kilometers from Astrakhan, on the right bank of the river Volga and the old is the remains of a medieval city.

Mound ranked length of two kilometers and a width of 500-600 meters. Since 1990, its territory being comprehensive archaeological survey, during which found four partially preserved houses and fully preserved dugout. In addition, it was found that there was built a big fortress, presumably destroyed during the campaign of Prince Svyatoslav on the Khazars. After the pogrom city again revived and has become one of the most developed commercial centers on the Silk Road. In the XIII century, the city captured the Mongols. Proof of this are the remains of a settlement of the Golden Horde period, found in the upper layers. The history of the settlement concluded during the great flood of the river Volga and the Caspian Sea level rise in the XIV century, when the water is completely flooded it.

It is noteworthy that the very ancient settlement was discovered by accident. Near the village Samosdelka, where is the ancient settlement, the construction of livestock farms. During arrangement of silos of the land it has been extracted a lot of debris of bricks, ceramics, iron, bronze, jewelry and household items, as well as human bones. Schoolmaster A. Pukhov gathered an impressive collection of pottery and showed it to the archaeologists, and then began the first study.
