Children's Railway Tbilisi is the first official opening of the children's railway not only in Georgia but also in the world. The idea of building the road appeared in 1933 during the discussion of the current layout construction of the railway on the children's service station in Tbilisi. Subsequently, it was decided to build a full-fledged railway, which became later a training project.
In September 1934, construction began on the road. In June 1935, it held its grand opening. Initially, the children's railway had a length of 400 m. In 1935, after the discovery was made the new project of extension of the railway to 1600 m, but the road was extended by only 800 meters.
The first locomotive, which appeared on the road has become narrow-gauge steam locomotive, manufactured in Germany at the factory Jung. During the Great Patriotic War at the Tbilisi railway also operated rail car Mug / 2 evacuated from Rostov children's railway. In the postwar years, the work done is another locomotive series 159. Once received two locomotive TU3-035 (1971) and TU7-2044 (1987).
In 1960-ies. Children's railway station underwent a major renovation during which the stations Solar and Pioneer were erected new buildings and stations removed a dead end near the depot. In addition, there were shortened deadlocks on ways to Pioneer Station.
At the beginning of the 1990s. because of the situation in the country paramilitary Children's Railway was closed. After a while, the work of the road was restored, but not as the training of young railway workers and for common recreational traffic. The rolling stock consisted of a locomotive TU7-2044. The locomotive Ak-1721 has been installed on the station as a monument Pioneer.
In 2009, the movement of a single locomotive stopped, the main reason - failure. In 2012, traffic on the children's railway was renewed. The new train, you can go for a walk in the park and look at the miracle of surviving steam locomotive Ak-1721.
