Torre das Kabashi, or Clock Tower - is one of the buildings of the castle of Santarem, which survives to this day. The tower stands next to the church of San Joao de Alporao (St. John the Baptist).

Clock Tower - a quadrangular building height of 22 meters. The tower was built in the late Gothic style in the XV century, it was part of the defense system of the city of Santarem. In the XVII century it was conducted small building work, which resulted in the top of the tower added two fittings (detail frame) in the style of mannerism in order to give the tower a more artistic look. Despite the fact that the walls and buildings of the city council, which was also part of the Torre das Kabashi, nothing left, the tower serves as the clock tower today.

Torre das Kabashi translates Pumpkin Tower. The name of the tower was due to the fact that the top is an iron structure with eight ceramic jug. This structure was established to enhance the sound of a large bronze bells of the XVII century that followed the battle of mechanical watches. This jingle was to be heard in villages near Santarem.

In 1999, the City Council has developed a plan of Santarem on the reconstruction and restoration of the tower adjacent territory. Today, the tower looks different: restored architectural modeling, restored the tower clock mechanism. The tower housed the Museum of time. The museum has a unique and extensive collection of weathervanes, antique sundial and other items that relate to the time and can talk about it.
