Around 25 km south of the capital of the same name by the beautiful Greek island of Rhodes, near the village of Archangelos is the famous monastery of Panagia Tsambika and its holy relic - the miraculous icon of the Virgin Mary. Virgin Tsambika considered the patroness of all couples, and especially childless.

The name of the monastery comes from the word «tsamba», which is translated from the local dialect means "spark a flash." According to legend, once the islanders saw on top of the hill sparkling light. After rising to the top, they found in the branches of a small tree, literally the size of a palm, an icon of the Virgin in a silver frame. A little later, it became clear that this is the missing icon of one of the monasteries of Cyprus. Several attempts to recover a sacred relic not successful ... icon miraculously returning to the top of the hill of Rhodes. Considering this a sign of divine sign, it was decided to found a church in honor of the Virgin.

So, on top of a steep picturesque hill at an altitude of 240 m above sea level, and there was a small chapel of Our Lady Tsambika, perfectly preserved to this day. Today in the monastery are 300 steps and generally rise quite tiring, but it certainly is worth it just to be able to just enjoy the stunning panoramic views of the boundless sea and Rhodes.

Much later, at the foot of the hill it was built the monastery of Our Lady Tsambika - a magnificent temple of snow-white, covered with red tiles, a tall bell tower. It is stored and the miraculous icon of the Virgin Mary, to bow to which every year comes a huge number of pilgrims from all over the world. In the temple on top of a hill there is a large copy and the original raise here only September 8, feast of the Nativity of the Virgin.

Virgin Tsambika Monastery - one of the most popular attractions of the island of Rhodes and the main shrine. It come here desperate to become a mother women from around the world hoping to be cured of infertility, and to know the joy of motherhood.
