Vila Baleira - is the only town on the island of Porto Santo, which is part of the Madeira archipelago. Vila Baleira is one of the few settlements in Portugal, which is a single region, and city status was granted in 1996, in August. In Vila Baleira are also the administrative authorities of the island of Porto Santo.

Porto Santo Island is located 43 km to the northeast of the island of Madeira, and is the northernmost and the easternmost island of the Madeira archipelago. Vila Baleira is located on the site of the first settlement of the island, which was founded in 1419 Bartolomeu Perestrelo, Portuguese explorer and navigator, as well as the first captain-donatario and governor of the island of Porto Santo.

The main streets of the city of Largo do Pelourinho considered and Infante Gardens. The term "area" does not quite fit the Largo do Pelourinho, because Largo do Pelourinho has a triangular shape, so the street is considered. It is decorated with date palms and a unique dragon tree, which are listed as endangered. On this street is an ancient building of the city administration, was built in the XVI century. Nearby stands the parish church of Nossa Senhora da Piedade,. The temple was built in the late XVII century on the site of the first church of the island, burned by pirates in 1667. From the original construction was only a chapel in Gothic style, which is located on the south side of the church. Behind the temple is a modern building of the city administration and cultural center, where are held various conferences and other events. In the eastern part of the city is the port, and to the western reaches of the famous beach of Porto Santo, whose length - 9 km.
