Risan is the oldest town in Montenegro. It is the oldest settlement of Boka. The first mentions of it date back to the 4th century BC, when it was the capital and the main core of its value Illyrian fortress state ruled queen Teuta Risan, where she hid during the war. The rule of Venice lasted until 1797, then he briefly ruled the French, the Austrians and finally the town became part of Yugoslavia, and remained there until its collapse. Today it is part of an independent Montenegro.

The current population of the city of Risan be called numerous - it amounts to little more than two thousand people, but there is a tendency to constant growth. Tourists and visitors are welcomed Risan port, the city has a hotel. Risan is famous for its specialized center for neurosurgery and medical facilities for the treatment of orthopedic diseases called "Vaso Chukovich."
