In the northern part of the Aegean Sea, near the Thracian coast is amazing literally immersed in the green mountainous island of Samothrace (Samothraki). Its area is approximately 178 square kilometers and a population of no more than 3,000 people. The main occupation of the locals is fishing. Part of the population is also engaged in the rapidly emerging field of tourism.

The island of Samothrace with magnificent natural landscapes and fantastic scenery is considered one of the most beautiful and green islands of Greece. Here you will find majestic mountains (highest peak - rising in the center of the island Fengari Mountain, 1611 meters above sea level) and the picturesque gorges, rapid rivers and lakes, as well as beautiful waterfalls, superb beaches and healing thermal springs in the village of Therma. It is a paradise for nature lovers and the perfect place for fans of outdoor activities here that can go climbing, rafting, paragliding, mountain biking, etc. The most popular on the island enjoys hiking.

To get to the island of Samothrace by ferry from the city of Alexandroupolis and Kavala. Ferries arrive in located on the northwest coast of the island port Kamarotisu - a modern town with a well-developed tourist infrastructure. From Kamarotisy you can go anywhere in the island.

The administrative center of the island is the picturesque village of Chora, nestled on the steep mountain slopes. Strolling through the narrow streets of the old town, you get a lot of pleasure. Attractions Chora it is worth noting the ruins of the Genoese fortress, owned by the family of Gattiluzio, Ethnographic Museum and the Church of the Assumption (1875).

Here in 1863 was found the famous marble statue of the goddess Nike - Nike of Samothrace (about 190 BCE). Today the island has brought world famous statue of the goddess Nike kept in the Louvre.
