Jáchymov Town Hall

As in any Czech town controlled by the magistrate, in Jáchymov has a town hall. At the beginning of the XVI century city hall was located in the grain market - near the chapel of St. Anne. But with the development of the town a small wooden building could not accommodate all the officials, so the government had to look for a new building for the needs of the city council.

In 1531, the mayor singled out 2000 gold for the purchase of a more appropriate structure. That turned out to be the mansion of Hieronymus Schlick uptown. He completely gave city officials, so no alterations of its structure was not provided. But in 1538 the Mint, which was located in an adjacent building to the Town Hall, there was a large fire. The fire spread to the house and Schlick. To save the structure failed, so officials were forced to move back into the building of the old Town Hall. Since the land on which stood the manor Schlick, now also owned by the city, it was decided to build on the site of the demolished mansion new. This happened in the period from 1540 to 1544 years.

In 1784, City Hall was reconstructed, and its facade was redone in classical style. At the beginning of the XX century we have built the town hall on the 1st floor and increased living space.

After the Second World War, the old City Hall was demolished, so now there is only one Jáchymov City Hall. In it, by the way, is also the city library and a tour desk. On the facade of the Town Hall above the portal you can see the coat of arms of Jachymov. Once inside the building, pay attention to the arches that have survived from the Renaissance.
