  It was built in 1590-1592 years elder Jewish Town Mordechai Mayzlom, which funded the extensive restructuring of the ghetto in the style Renassans. The synagogue was built under the direction of Joseph and Judah shaft Goldshmida de Herz. Originally the building was heavily damaged during a fire in 1689, after which the building was restored in baroque style. After restructuring in the Gothic Revival style by A.Grotta in 1893-1905, the synagogue has lost much of the features of the Baroque. From the initial disposition preserved Renaissance three-nave layout of the main nave and heightened female gallery.

Currently, Maisel Synagogue serves as an exhibition space and storage Jewish Museum. The first part of the exhibition History of the Jews in Bohemia and Moravia from the settlement before emancipation illustrates the course of the history of Jews in the Czech lands from the tenth century until the end of the XVIII century. The prologue introduces the historical information about the origin of the Jewish settlement in Bohemia and Moravia. As well as the legal and social position of the Jew in the medieval state. Particular attention is paid to the Renaissance, related both to the construction of synagogues, so the name of their founder Mordyhaya Mayzla. Traditional Jewish education are the work of outstanding scientists, who occupied the place of rabbis and Talmudic schools of Rectors of Czech and Moravian Jewish communities (Lib Rabbi David Oppenheim).
