Liverpool Cathedral of Christ and the Virgin Mary - the Anglican Cathedral of the city. The temple was built in the XX century, it is the largest cathedral of the Great Britain and the fifth largest in the world.

Diocese of Liverpool was founded in 1880, and the first bishop's seat was a small parish church of St Peter. Nearly 20 years spent on the coordination of the construction site of the new cathedral and a design competition. The contest has won a 20-year-old Giles Gilbert Scott, who by that time had not yet completed their studies, has not built a single building, and also belonged to the Catholic faith.

The first stone was laid by King Edward VII in 1904, but in 1910, Scott radically reworked draft. The original plan called for the construction of two towers and a single transept, according to the new plan was built the central tower and two symmetrical side of the transept. Fully cathedral was completed only in 1978. Its length is 189 meters and the height of the central tower - 101 meters. The bell tower of the cathedral is also one of the highest in the world, and at the height of 67 meters is the tallest and heaviest in the world collection of ringing bells.
