The ruins of the castle of Berenburg

The castle ruins are located near Berenburg village Ander relating to the Swiss canton of Grisons. Their image of the coat of arms Ander. To get to the ruins, you can walk for 10 minutes on a specially designated lane, originating behind the village.

When it was built the castle Berenburg, historians do not know exactly, because so far not found any written confirmation of the event. The first owners of the castle were two brothers, Conrad and Bartholomeus knight. Today the ruins of the castle became one of the most visited attractions in the region. To a large extent, this contributes to their degree of safety. Despite the fact that the castle was destroyed more than 500 years ago, are still preserved part of the defensive wall around him, and in the northern part of the ruins can be found outlines of the foundation quadrangular tower of 8, 6 by 6 meters. Historians suggest that the southern outskirts of the ruins, where today stands a pile of rubble, before another tower was located. In good condition and it is part of the twenty-meter wall on the west side of the former castle, which begins just behind the cliff down.
