Cape Cabrits (Cabrits) is located between the Gulf of Prince Rupert in the south and in the north of Douglas Bay. Translated from Spanish, Cabrits means "goat", which was used as fresh meat sailors stopping in Prince Rupert. Two twin hill called "Kebrit West" and "East Kebrit."

Cabrits National Park is situated on a peninsula just north of Portsmouth and includes both terrestrial and marine flora and fauna. This park was established in 1986 and is known primarily as an area of ​​Fort Shirley (Shirley) - is a large British garrison of the 18th century, the Anglo-French war, which once housed 600 soldiers. Some of the stone ruins of the fort have been partially restored in recent years, some are in the jungle, and already partially hidden by plants and trees.

Fort Shirley was the headquarters and main defense post of the British army garrison. Its construction began under the direction of Thomas Shirley, Governor of Dominica Republic (1774-1776), after whom the fort got its name. Last time it was used as a fort in 1854. Now, in the thickets of the forest you can see an old cannon, overgrown roots remnants of old ammunition depots. With the fort offers a wonderful view of the coast, and it is on this side of the island are sandy beaches.

Nearby is the River Indian River, where they filmed the famous movie "Pirates of the Caribbean 2 and 3". Here, everywhere you can see different kinds of herons and river are found in many species of fish. The park has a large area of ​​about 1, 3 acres.
