In the historic center of Alatyr on the picturesque banks of the river Sura is a complex of buildings of Kiev Nicholas Novodevichy convent, founded in 1639.

The history of the monastery began with the arrival of the abbess of the monastery Ladin Polutskogo Elizabeth with 52 nuns from Kiev to the city Alatyr device Novodevichy Convent. Since its inception the convent enjoyed special favor Russian queens and kings. In 1899, in the historical sketch Krasovsky were described and gifts sent by the king's private visit to the monastery royal personages. One only Mikhail Fedorovich Romanov monastery were donated bells, liturgical books, icons, factories Staritsa River Sura, mill site and much more.

After a fire in 1667, Tsar Alexei Mikhailovich had allocated money to build a new campus. Empress Catherine II, the monastery was awarded his visit in June 1767, granted the monastery robes, air (decoration) and a belt of white silk material with flowers. Each thing has been bestowed with gold embroidered monogram of the Empress. Subsequent Russian emperors - Pavel Petrovich and Alexander Pavlovich endows the monastery of arable land (30 dessiatines), the villa estate (150 acres) and other plots. From the most expensive church utensils of the monastery were a gift of Empress Maria Feodorovna - Altar silver with gold cross studded with rhinestones and other jewels, total weight was 164 spool, and complained Duchess Elena Pavlovna plated chalice with its accessories, weighing 212 spools.

Nowadays monastery complex consists of the restored buildings: the gate of the temple of St. Nicholas (1737 built), trёhprestolnogo Ascension Church (1753), Church of the Intercession of the Holy Virgin with built a chapel in honor of Dmitry Rostovsky (1760), commercial and residential buildings. The territory is fenced monastery old stone wall with corner towers.

The whole architectural ensemble of Kiev Nicholas Novodevichy Convent is a Baroque monument of history and architecture of the eighteenth century.
