The most important historic landmark, which is famous for Aalborg, is the Gothic Cathedral of St. Budolfa. This is one of the oldest buildings in Denmark. The church dates back to X century.

It was originally built in Romanesque style in honor of St. Budolfa, patron saint of sailors. In the XIV century, the cathedral was destroyed by the structure itself was only a foundation. Wealthy merchants and merchants raised funds, and some time later on the site of the destroyed temple was built a new church for the parishioners.

Inside the Cathedral of St. Budolfa are well-preserved frescoes of the XVI century. In 1689 at the expense of Niels Espersen and his wife had built an altar, decorated with their coats of arms. In 1779, the temple was added to the Baroque spire. The steeple was built with funds donated by brother and sister Jacob and Elisabeth Himmer. Inside the cathedral walls are decorated with portraits of patrons, which were carried out on the donations of the interior finishing works of the temple. Special attention of visitors attracted baptismal font in 1728 and the department in 1692.

Cathedral of the Holy Budolfa is surrounded by magnificent historical attractions such as Jens Bang's House, Town Hall, Historical Museum, the Monastery of the Holy Spirit. Today, the temple is one of the most famous and important historical monuments in Denmark. Each year, the Cathedral of St. Budolfa visited by many tourists from all over the world.
