One of the attractions of Fethiye is a city museum, all exhibits which have been collected in the city (the old name of the city Telmessos, which means "city of light") and its surroundings such as Tlos and Leonton. All these cities were part of the ancient state of Lycia, located in the south of Asia Minor. Today this territory is the province of Antalya in Turkey.

According to archeological finds Tlos, the ancient city of Lycia, was founded around 2000 BC. The city is located 45 kilometers from Fethiye and is one of six major cities of Lycia. At one time he was considered "the most brilliant metropolis of the Lycian Union 'Federation and the sports center. Until the XIX century the city was inhabited by Turks. The impact of many cultures has led to quite an interesting variety of his works: beautiful tombs, relief tombs of the castle "bloodthirsty Ali", which was built on the foundations of a fortress Lycian, Roman gymnasiums, municipal baths, amphitheater. Fragments of these works of art are represented in the City Museum of Fethiye.

Ancient Letoon, located south of Fethiye, one of the important cities of Lycia, there was in the VIII century BC. The city was built in honor of Apollo, Artemis and their mother - goddess Leto. The ruins of three temples, original mosaics and a magnificent amphitheater, located in the settlement, striking beauty even experienced travelers.
